Thomas meets Vivaldi
What's better than one Vivaldi bassoon concerto? Two Vivaldi bassoon concertos! Especially when you add a bassoon concerto by contemporary Johann Graun and the most well-known Telemann bassoon sonata in F minor to the mix. Vivaldi is one of the few composers who wrote a tremendous amount for the bassoon (39 concertos), and you can really feel it when you play his music because he pushes the instrument to its limits. What I find so fantastic about Vivaldi's bassoon concertos is the rawness and sharpness they can have in contrast to the lyrical second movements – two timbres that I feel incredibly comfortable with.
In this program, I collaborate with the Helikon String Quartet, double bassist Lucas Bouchon, and harpsichordist Diego Ruenes Rubiales, and it premiered during the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.
